Low Sugar. Rich in Probiotics. Organic Ingredients.
Non-pasteurized raw kombucha, fermented with an organic blend of high mountain teas from Taiwan and raw organic sugar, is uniquely crafted during our second fermentation process with Cape Gooseberry, Lemon Verbena, and Bentong Ginger.
"Love in a Bottle" features Cape Gooseberry (Physalis peruviana), also known as Groundcherry.
The inside and texture of the fruit resemble that of tomatoes, with plenty of soft edible seeds. Its taste is sweet and tart, with a bitter ending note. Although Cape Gooseberries are distinct members of the nightshade family, akin to tomatoes, they share a similar appearance. We can often identify the family of fruits by their visible characteristics, such as their fruits, leaves, or flowers. Despite its name, the Cape Gooseberry has no botanical relation to the European gooseberry.
Cape Gooseberries are a good source of vitamin C and vitamin B and have a high antioxidant content, which may help prevent and repair damage done to the body’s cells by free radicals, which are compounds that contribute to aging and serious diseases like cancer. The fruit's nickname, "amor en cage", which translates from French to "Love in a Cage", comes from its natural protective layer that resembles a heart shape formed by the distinctive papery husk, initially olive in colour and fading to light brown as the fruit ripens. This colouration indicates when they are ready to be harvested and enjoyed. Cape Gooseberries should not be eaten when underripe, as they can be poisonous.
The fruit is a deep yellow-orange, and like many orange botanicals, Cape Gooseberries contain carotenoids, including lutein and beta-carotene, which can help promote healthy eyesight.
Lemon Verbena is known as a nervine herb and is prized for its aromatic oils, which many recognize for their citrus aroma reminiscent of lemons. Beyond their pleasant scent, Lemon Verbena has highly nutritional properties and medicinal benefits, such as calming and soothing effects, as well as immune-boosting qualities.
The addition of Ginger introduces anti-inflammatory benefits and adds a warming touch to the overall drink profile.
"Love in a Bottle" was one of the first menu creations of Amanita Kombucha, created in our early days to celebrate love—hence its name. This drink is dedicated to the folk stories of the featured fruit. The nutritional properties of these ingredients are too valuable to be merely used as attractive garnishes, which are often seen atop pastries. This bottle is dedicated to them and to all the love that exists in the world.
Here's to love and health, sourced from nature!
