Cool Cat: Your Calming & Immunity-Building Herbal Elixr Blend

The expression "cool cat" is often used to compliment great people who have a laid-back personality, effortless style, and a calming aura. The name of this drink highlights the human use of catnip while challenging the common misconception that catnip is only for cats. In reality, catnip is a medicinal herb from the mint family that can make a delicious tea. Its distinct smell comes from the terpene nepetalactone, which only affects cats, producing either a euphoric or sedative response. Humans, however, do not have the receptors for nepetalactone, so you won't get 'high' from catnip.

Aspire to be a Cool Cat, a great person to be around. (;

Uses of Ingredients

Catnip (Nepeta cataria) is a calming and comforting herb that helps ease nervous tension. Its gentle nature makes it a popular choice among herbalists for use with children. Traditionally, it has been used as a carminative to relieve gas and colic in kids, and it is even said to help with annoying hiccups. Additionally, catnip was commonly used for colds due to its diaphoretic properties, which induce sweating and help cool the body when overheated.

As a soothing medicinal herb, catnip is great for relaxation, digestion, and easing stomach cramps. It’s our go-to remedy for stomach discomfort.

Elderberry (Sambucus nigra) has been valued since the days of Hippocrates. All parts of the elder tree—bark, leaves, flowers, and berries—have long been recognized for their importance in traditional home medicine. Elderberries are especially noted for their high vitamin C content, which is three times that of an orange. They are commonly used to strengthen the immune system and are included in classic remedies for children and families. These remedies often combine elderberries with spices like cinnamon, clove, and ginger to alleviate flu symptoms and cure colds. Elderberries are what contribute a rich deep color to kombucha during infusion and fermentation.

Hibiscus flowers (Hibiscus Sabdariffa) is a rich source of bioactive compounds that exhibit potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities.

Lemon Verbena
(Aloysia citrodora) is known as a nervine herb and is prized for its aromatic oils, which many recognize for their citrus aroma reminiscent of lemons. Beyond their pleasant scent, Lemon Verbena has highly nutritional properties and medicinal benefits, such as calming and soothing effects, as well as immune-boosting qualities.

Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis) gets its Latin name "melissa", which means "honeybee" because of the abundance of nectar in its flowers that attract pollinators. This wonderful herb is well-known for its calming effects on the nervous system, its ability to soothe upset stomachs, and its capacity to foster a sense of peace. It also plays a significant role in connecting humans with pollinators.

Inspired by its rich folklore, we have included lemon balm in this blend to enhance its immune-boosting benefits. Lemon balm is also antiviral, antibacterial, antiseptic, astringent, and acts as a natural antihistamine. Many traditions suggest that drinking lemon balm tea each morning can help preserve memory, promote joy, extend life, and uplift the spirit.
